I don’t care if you’re a stay-at-home Mom, a working Mom or have no kids at all – learning how to create spa moments at home and work is a good idea. For me, it’s a necessary thing. Small, fleeting moments that calm me down, and if I’m lucky, long moments too.
Now before you roll your eyes, I think you need this. You need to relax. You deserve me time – I’m serious. It took me a long time to realize that I deserve me time, that I am my own person too. Turns out I had postpartum depression after my daughter was born. I didn’t realize it for a long time but I just couldn’t bring myself to do anything nice for me. No, it wasn’t my husband or anyone else’s doing. I projected this weird, distorted image of myself – I had to be completely self-less. My daughter and my husband got all of me and I didn’t need any. Or deserve it. But after, probably a year, maybe longer, I dug myself out of that hole.
So if you have any of those feelings, even a little – stop. Pull yourself out. You do not need to be a martyr. How about you start with one item on the list. Then you can work your way up to a full blown day of whatever makes you happy! Everyone around you will be happier, but way more importantly YOU WILL BE HAPPY. You deserve it!
OK. I think I’ve made my point. Now let’s get to it.

How to Create Spa Moments at Home & Work:
- Diffuser
- Music
- Robe
- Candles
- Sparkling water – Spindrift raspberry lime
- Fun/fancy food
- Bubbling foot spa
- Face mask
- Body scrub/body brush
- Nail polish
Diffuser. This takes just a few minutes but lasts, at least mine does, for up to six hours. Fill it up with water, add some lavender oil or your favorite scent, and let the scent relax you. Scents can be a powerful mood setter. I also like the cool rainbow of colors on my diffuser.
Music. I’m a Pandora person and my two favorite chill stations are spa & relaxation and Bossa Nova. But you do you. Put on whatever chills you out.
Robe. This is next level stuff to me. Firstly, you have to have a robe. Do people still have robes? Secondly, you need to feel some kind of way to put it on. I still mention it though because it can put you in a mood. Here are some great options: Maxmoda robe, Victoria’s Secret and Target are always good options.
Candles. Can I be honest here? I don’t really love candles because a lot are toxic and with kids it’s a fire danger. I know, buzz kill. But I do like a good battery operated one like these Enpornk pillar battery-operated candles or the smaller tea light Homemory battery-operated candles. Think of candles as a visual reminder to relax.
Sparkling water. Sparkling water is what inspired spa moments at home. It just made me feel fancy and calmed my nerves. Quick note here. Before I had my son I thought sparkling water was disgusting. But hormones are weird and now I totally love sparkling water and it’s bizarre. If you don’t like sparkling water get whatever beverage makes you feel fancy. The key here is fancy. My favorite sparking waters are Spindrift and Bubbly.
Fun/fancy food. You know those overpriced dips and crackers? Buy some. Maybe some cheese that only you like, some fruit or a small treat like chocolate. Food can make you feel extravagant and fancy. And y’all know Trader Joe’s is one of my favorite grocery stores for snacks!
Bubbling foot spa. I’ll admit it, I thought these were dumb. But then my Mom brought hers to give the girls a pedicure and I thought I’d put my feet in too. Then I was hooked. Cool water and bubbles on my feet make me happy. My mom has a Conair one, it’s not going to win any awards, but it gets the job done!
Face masks. I fully jumped on the face mask bandwagon, and I love it. And why wouldn’t I? I love to look fresh and moisturized. I always make sure to have face masks on hand. Some of my favorites are Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Sheet Mask and Ursie’s Apothocary line. For a list of my current favorite face masks head over to the face mask post!
Body scrub and/or body brush. Here’s another item I thought was a bunch of crap but I absolutely love it. The Spin Spa. My husband bought me this and I was so confused. I smiled and thought why the heck would he get me one of these?! But now I feel super clean and love doing it once a week.
Nail polish. Nail polish is fun and every time I look down I smile. I prefer a more non toxic nail polish, especially since my daughter loves painting her nails too. EA Polish is a great, small woman-owned company.
