I love the entire Thanksgiving meal, don’t get me wrong. But dessert, and in particular pies? Forget it! There’s nothing like a good piece of pie after you’ve walked off your meal with some coffee. And these Thanksgiving pie recipes will get you to your happy place!
- Pumpkin pie
- Pecan pie
- Apple pie
I have two options for each pie here, in case you’re feeling frisky or need options.
And if you’re still on the fence about other Thanksgiving recipes for the main meal, check out my Dad’s Gulliver’s Corn Recipe and my Mom’s Classic Stuffing Recipe. And if you need some tablescape ideas head to my Fall Ladies Brunch.
Pie Crusts
We all know homemade pie crusts are better but sometimes its just too much. My mom is really great at making pie crusts and I make them once in a blue moon.
Homemade crust recipe. I haven’t made this Sally’s Baking Addiction pie crust or the Epicurious pie crust (with a tad bit of sugar like my mom’s), but they’re both super similar to my mom’s pie crust recipe – which is good.
Frozen crust. I use the frozen Marie Callender’s deep dish pie shells. It doesn’t contain any lard and it’s easy to bake with.
Pumpkin Pies
Pumpkins pies are the stand-bys of Thanksgiving pies. Add some whip cream and you’ll happy.
The Great Pumpkin Pie by Sally’s Baking Addiction. This is a classic, standard, excellent pie. I’ve been making it for years and I absolutely love it.
Perfect pumpkin pie with sweetened condensed milk by Eagle Brand on Allrecipes. This pie has condensed milk, which I’ve never had, but it got really great reviews.
Pecan Pies
I’ve made both pecan pies and they’re great. The really big difference is one has corn syrup and the other doesn’t.
Pecan Pie V by Allrecipes. This is my go-to pecan pie recipe. I found this after wanting to look for a recipe without Karo syrup and perhaps a tad less sweet. It’s excellent.
Karo syrup pecan pie by Karo syrup. This is the pie I grew up with that my Mom made all the time. It’s great, I have no issues with it, I just like the Allrecipes pie just a little more.
Apple Pie
Guess what I’m going to say? I’ve only made one of these pies. But they’re both great options.
Sublime Apple Crumb Pie by Women’s Day Magazine. My mom copied this recipe out of a Women’s Day Magazine back in the day and she’s been using it ever since. It can be broken up into two pies or pilled into one huge, tall one. And for some reason they’re missing measurements. Quick hint: don’t over bake it or it’ll turn into an applesauce pie.
Apple Pie by Grandma Ople from Allrecipes. It looks amazing and has great reviews. I can’t believe I haven’t tried another apple pie recipe!
