Thanksgiving Recipes
Turkey
For the main event, my Dad smokes the turkey. I know, this isn’t super helpful unless you have a smoker. He doesn’t use a recipe but I found this recipe from Dinner at the Zoo, that sounds really good. If you only buy a smoker for this, it will be money well spent.
Cranberry Sauce
I’ve been making this tried and true Basic Cranberry Sauce for years. It’s from a Cooking Light magazine in 2007! And yes, I cut it out of the magazine and it lived in my recipe binder. I follow the recipe to a T and it always good. You just dump everything in the pan and simmer. It’s best to do it a day before!
Mashed Potatoes
I like Chef John’s Perfect Mashed Potatoes from Allrecipes. It’s a basic recipe but it’s a good one. I make the potatoes in the morning and then keep them warm in a slow cooker. The trick here to not dry out, or soak your potatoes with condensation, put a hand towel between the cooker and the lid – so just underneath the lid. It’s such an awesome trick!
Gravy
My mom makes the gravy typically and she’s not a recipe person when it comes to this. Her recipe is something like, make the broth ahead of time, then add some butter, flour and herbs, then you’re done. Thanks Mom.
This Make-ahead Turkey Gravy recipe from Allrecipes, seems like my moms where you need make a stock ahead of time in the crock pot from chicken or turkey. Or, you can go ahead and make this easy gravy recipe here from Dizzy, Busy & Hungry.
Sweet Potato Casserole
This one is vegan! This sweet potato casserole by Nora Cooks is crazy delicious! My sister and her family went vegan a few years back and she brought this casserole. Holy smokes my husband and I still talk about it, it’s that good. Vegan or not, make it.
And if you like your sweet potatoes savory I’ve made this deliciously creamy mashed sweet potatoes from Allrecipes before. It is excellent!
Green Beans
Guys. I can’t remember which recipe I used. But this one from A Beautiful Plate seems really familiar. It has the good stuff: butter, almonds, shallots and lemon.
Stuffing
My Mom has been making this stuffing/dressing recipe since I can remember. Mom’s Classic Stuffing Recipe is far better than any boxed stuffing recipe and not all mushy and wet. It’s not overly involved and anyone can do it! The recipe has a small and large version.
Dad’s Gulliver’s Corn
My Dad found this recipe years ago while going to a potluck and now I call it Dad’s Gulliver’s Corn Recipe. It’s quick, easy and everyone always asks me for the recipe! It’s great for a potluck or Friendsgiving.
White Bean Kale Salad
My sister brought this this kale salad by Minimalist Baker last year. It’s got a great tahini dressing and feels nice next to all that heavy food!
Rolls
Rolls. My mom made these 1-Hour Light and Buttery Dinner Rolls from Inquiring Chef last year and they were delicious. They were exactly how they title describes them and perfect with the meal.
Dessert
My family makes three pies for Thanksgiving: pumpkin, pecan and apple. Because everyone wants something different. Or maybe we want a buffet of desserts. At any rate my, all of the recipes we use are on Thanksgiving pie round-up here.
